Dev Blog 26: Alpha 0.3 now available!

Get it here!

I've just uploaded a new version of Davenport. Changes include:

  • A drop-down menu with some of the most common actions (load, save, quit etc)
  • Fonts are now supported in a much better way. Rather than shipping a selection of fonts with Davenport, you can now use any font that's been installed 'for all users' on your PC.
To choose a font, open a note and type:

#f=times Hi! This note uses the Times New Roman font!

Davenport will find the best match for the font name you type in and import it. So if you wanted 30=point Comic Sans for your header notes, you could define a tag like this:

#header: #f=comic #s=30

Any note you tag with #header will adopt that formatting!

The design philosophy of Davenport: Why all these tags? Why not menus?

Davenport is consciously designed to be distraction-free. Having oodles of friendly pop-up context menus for formatting is just inviting the temptation to fiddle and faff rather than make progress.

#Tags are just enough effort that you won't go messing with them for fun. They also tie into the timeline system, which means you can automatically format and visualise your notes in many different ways. More on that later!
